Who is the Editor? An Introduction to Zachary
Hi all, Zachary here. I know you’re probably wondering, who is this kid? Why should I trust anything he is telling me? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
Graduating from high school in 2017, I was blind to how brutal the world truly is. I was faced with the decision to continue my educational career or step right into the workforce. If I went to school, I would be the first in my family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. If I went to work, I could possibly be stuck in a dead-end job. I chose to take the education route.
I enrolled in my local community college where I was a studio art major. Although I enjoyed creating artwork, I couldn’t see myself creating art for my whole life. So, I decided to change my major and school. Extreme, right? I know. But, I am so grateful I did. I transferred to Rowan University and majored in art education. Maybe then, I’ll find a purpose for my skills. As the years progressed and I failed the state’s teaching test - not once, but twice, I decided to change my major, once again. I didn’t think I had what it took to be a teacher. So, I discussed it with the school’s administration and came to the conclusion of advertising. I loved it. I still do.
Advertising is the degree I graduated with. I enjoyed the mix of creativity while still getting to use my “left brain” with the strategy involved in placing advertisements.
I graduated from Rowan in 2021. Yup, the tail end of the coronavirus pandemic. As if graduation wasn’t stressful enough, imagine doing so with a mask on. Granted, seeing my classmates graduate in 2020 when no one knew what was going on was, indeed, a disaster.
I was already worried about finding a job, let alone during a global pandemic. After several months of tears, anxiety, and therapy sessions, I have found a role with my current company as a Digital Marketing Specialist, working primarily with social media.
And here we are.
While I do love the structure of the 9 to 5, *cue Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5* I want to do more. And that’s how my blog was born. I love working with social media and creating content for viewers.
