My Favorite Spots in Philadelphia
Growing up only 35 minutes and a train ride away from Philadelphia, I’ve grown very fond of this picturesque city. With the city presenting many options, it’s hard to do the same thing twice. Unless of course, you love the below ideas so much you choose to go back. Here are some of my favorite spots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Restaurants:
The Continental Midtown - A retro atmosphere has inspired a unique menu. Anything from poke bowls to lobster mac and cheese. Aside from the menu, the atmosphere is amazing. On the ground floor, you can expect to see booths with a window view, and a bar. The second floor is my personal favorite with swinging chairs overlooking the entire ground floor. Out on the patio, you can enjoy your meal while engulfed in the Philadelphia atmosphere.
Gran Caffe L’Acquila - This Italian restaurant is sure to please all of your pasta needs. Gran Caffe is for the true Italians of the area since they serve authentic Italian food. Straight from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Not to mention, their gelato is homemade. 10/10, would recommend it. The restaurant occasionally hosts cooking classes, for you to practice your pasta-making skills.
Standard Tap - I recently visited this restaurant in Northern Liberties, for my 22nd birthday. I was blown away by the welcoming atmosphere Standard Tap has to offer. I dined outside on the porch. With bar seating, outdoor, and indoor dining, everyone is sure to have a great time. The draft beers are really what sold me. Standard Tap sources its wide variety of beer from local breweries. There are even live community events.
White Dog Cafe - University City - This unique spot is another place I hit up for my 21st birthday. The cheese boards and creative cocktails are tailored to your liking, so you know they will be amazing. With several locations throughout Philadelphia, everyone is able to get a taste of White Dog’s delicious menu.
Museums:
Philadelphia Museum of Art - I’m a big fan of art, and as you know, it was my major in college. It only makes sense for me to enjoy multiple trips to the PMA. As soon as you walk up the steps where the movie Rocky was filmed, you will notice an amazing building designed by the first African-American graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s architecture program. Pretty cool, right? Also, as a bonus, this museum holds Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh. My personal favorite.
Wonderspaces - A modern museum with various forms of art. This interactive museum is like no other. That I've seen, I’ll add. Don’t be fooled, this place is wonderful for taking some amazing photos for social media.
Magic Gardens - Another interactive museum available to walk through was designed by a Philadelphia muralist. With odd mediums used, such as dinner dishes and bicycles, it’s obvious the creativity and thought that went into creating the 200+ murals throughout the city.
Photo spots:
Penns Landing - Strike a pose with the Ben Franklin Bridge in the background. Better yet, take that photo at night! It’s so pretty.
Elfreth’s Alley - Stroll down this street which dates back to 1703. A row of 32 houses stands along this cobblestone street. Another great spot for a photoshoot.
